one last look.

Okay, so much has happened.  Since I last wrote I successfully crossed the country, moved into a little cabin behind a sweet family's house in Canada, and have started an apprenticeship at a litte wood-fired bakery on Vancouver Island! Sheesh, I'm tired, but I like it so much here -- everyone is so kind and the bakery is everything I hoped it would be, all wooden and small with so many delicious things.  It's all very surreal though, not even a week ago I was comfortably living my life in Vermont - now there's a metric system to get used to, French radio stations, a whole different type of people, and warmer, rainy winters.
I swear once I'm not moving in 1000 directions I'll put up photos.

Anyway, before all of that, I decided to take a trip to get a look at the Atlantic Ocean before I left it for so many months --so an overnight trip to southern Maine!  The wind froze my blood, but it was so beautiful and I hadn't even realized how much I missed that salty air.  When I left I could still taste salt on my lips and my hair was in a crisp, messy place.  Not to mention I ate so much seafood.

Rocks.

Looking through all my recent photos I realized I just like hangin' out near rocks and water with my friends.

a visit.

My friend from Asheville, David, came to visit! We've been doing nice things like going to crazy burger/beach outings and having a lot of really good conversations.  So, yesterday we took a trip out to Cape Cod to meet with another friend from Asheville (what are they all doing up here?) at her aunt's sweet little cottage on the water. Along the way we saw there was a place called Sandwich, Massachusetts, and thought the only logical thing to do was to eat a sandwich there - so we did.  I dropped him off further down the cape with our friends - a little sad to come back to reality, but it's for the best, because next week I begin packing for Vermont, what?

family weekend.

This weekend my dad came to visit.  Parents coming means so much being taken out to dinner and breakfast (no complaints).  My dad is a pretty silly person, so seeing him is always a funny time and now that I'm finally able to drink we had our first night of drinking fancy drinks and laughing over all the ridiculous things he's done (some of them are so ridiculous).  We also took a trip over to Connecticut to take my grandfather to the beach!

a good start.

Some really beautiful things have been happening these days.  I've been making new friends, learning new things (like how to card & spool wool!), seeing some live music, and mainly feeling a lot better than I have over this past month or so.
And today was the start of Melissa and I's trip to the south (yes, again) to see a friend's band play at a music festival in the nc mountains! She picked me up in Rhode Island and we started everything off really well with a stop at the beach and hot chocolates at the little art cafe nearby.

to the beach.

I can't imagine not living at least a little bit near a beach.  Just knowing that it's near is such a comfort.  It's perfect for sunny days off of work when all you need is to be outside and away from the urban things. So, to Little Compton, Rhode Island! I found a little village that is apparently only busy in the summer season. I followed a small trail and found myself on the most peaceful, rocky, new england beach complete with a lighthouse and my own little cove.  I lazed there for 3 hours and felt so happy that I hardly took any pictures of all the magic scenery.

the best day.

The day started with marshmallow cereal, then a 15 mile bike ride where we stopped by a soap factory to eat fresh fruit and thin mint cookies, a trip to the beach, and dinner + pumpkin cheesecake (!) at crazy burger.  It was the best day.
Not to mention it was 67 degrees today! Nothing makes me happier than a day off work with sunshine, biking around, good food, and feeling like you really earned your sleep at the end of the day.

Fresh air, a cozy wooden house with a wood stove, the ocean (!!), delicious soup, a bird that sits on your shoulder and sings to you (and lets you scratch its head!), sea glass collecting,  - it's a magical place over there.

weekend.

it was a full weekend with:
a getaway trip to the beach
a group outing to my favorite indoor farmer's market
ANOTHER birthday dinner, this time at my place
and, hey, that's what Providence looks like when it's crisp and sunny out.

rome point, ri

Highlights:
+ running and screaming down the beach
+ ( attempts at) learning to skip rocks
+ learning to get over my fear of heights, and a few others
+ just being outside in general
