These days I've been appreciating the last things - my last violin lesson, my last time out to the farm, my last day of work... . It's all becoming really real, and this time next week I should be settling into my new place in Vermont. I'm already missing this place and I haven't even gone yet, but I know once I'm moved into Vermont there will be a whole new excitement. I can already tell I'll be coming back to Providence all the time. Those pretty leaves up there are watermelon plants that were planted on Sunday, so I've already committed to making a trip back in August for fresh watermelon on the farm, oh man.

back at scratch farm.
I'm back helping out on this little farm in Cranston, RI. This time I'm getting payed with greens and all the other things that are harvested, but that's not even an incentive, just a bonus, really. Working in the dirt with these nice people is seriously the best thing I could be doing with my time. And it was so hot on Sunday that we all took a break from hoeing and weeding to go swimming in that pond!
Scratch Farm
These last two Sundays I've biked out (9 miles?!) to this little place, Scratch farm. Harvesting fresh herbs, carrots, leeks and sweet potatoes with all of these lovely people and I forgot I was even doing work. We share lunch together kindergarten fashion ("I'll trade two biscuits for some of your oatmeal") and have all sorts of conversation. It's been so wonderful -- each bike ride home I've been in some cerebral state of bliss with the sunset in the background and a me covered in dirt.

i, Spontaneously biking down to India Point park after work and finding a little bench to sit, eat bread, and read.
ii. & iii. The Saturday morning Farmer's market! I ran into people I knew AND got free apples. There are always so many dogs and adorable old couples - it is the perfect way to start a day.
iv. A before sleep hot cocoa that involved melting down dark chocolate chips, cinnamon, and a bit of cayenne. I had some sort of spiritual experience.
v. Sunday I biked out to volunteer on Scratch farm. I just love that place. I'll be writing more about it, I know.
