These days I've been appreciating the last things - my last violin lesson, my last time out to the farm, my last day of work... . It's all becoming really real, and this time next week I should be settling into my new place in Vermont. I'm already missing this place and I haven't even gone yet, but I know once I'm moved into Vermont there will be a whole new excitement. I can already tell I'll be coming back to Providence all the time. Those pretty leaves up there are watermelon plants that were planted on Sunday, so I've already committed to making a trip back in August for fresh watermelon on the farm, oh man.

saturday...
We drew pictures in the park with oranges and guarana soda. Comparing our perspectives of the same place was so much fun, and drawing, just for fun, with honest lines and no inhibitions is my new favorite thing. We walked to a nearby court to play basketball, which seemed laughable at first, but ended up being the best time. Kids from the playground came over and asked if they could play with us and soon we had completed a 2 hour game of knock out. These were the best kids too, they were polite with us, joking around, and by the end they were begging that we stay just 30 minutes longer :S
Plus, it was nice to have a day of "just hangin' out". Providence, or maybe being a 20-something, it seems there always has to be a purpose for meeting someone, to get coffee or go to a lecture or a poetry reading, but I've been missing the good ol' days of just calling someone up to come over - make up the plans along the way. So, we did just that and I had so much more fun than I've ever had at any old poetry reading.
a picnic.
These last couple of weeks I've been going to Quaker meetings, so, I've made some really nice new friends. And I heard the best thing to do with new friends is have a picnic in 75 degree weather. So, we did. We were so happy sitting there and grazing that before we knew it 3 hours had passed. Plus, a lady brought her two daughters and I think we were all charmed by the little things that they said.
films (part 2)
All this sunny weather and I used a whole new roll of film. I think I've found a new (expensive) hobby.
jamestown, ri
Fresh air, a cozy wooden house with a wood stove, the ocean (!!), delicious soup, a bird that sits on your shoulder and sings to you (and lets you scratch its head!), sea glass collecting, - it's a magical place over there.
life from my cell-phone.
Life in providence has lots of little moments too - like spying on old italian men in cafes or baristas giving me silly personalized latte art (see the eyepatch on that heart!). And there's more exciting things like climbing the stairs and ladders of an abandoned power plant to reach a nighttime overlook of the city. It's the little things, ya know?
coffee club.
On the westside a friend has started a coffee club where people can meet, drink coffee, sketch, catch-up, read, and all the other things that normally happen in coffee shops. This one is more fun because it's in this small little rented space only on Fridays and all the people are just really good. These are the sorts of things that make me never want to leave Providence.
weekend.
favorites:
+ clementines, ratatouille, and a fireplace on sunday
+ southern food night (mainly endless baked beans & mac&cheese) with Suzie
+ a movie theater outing where we snuck in Indian food and watched this cheesy thriller
+ my first house show in Providence!
+ and sitting by the river on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
weekend.
it was a full weekend with:
a getaway trip to the beach
a group outing to my favorite indoor farmer's market
ANOTHER birthday dinner, this time at my place
and, hey, that's what Providence looks like when it's crisp and sunny out.
